New African Ceramics 3
A collection from Duke Franz von Bayern<\/strong>

The exhibition is open
from 17 June 2025<\/strong> to 19 October 2025<\/strong>.

The ceramics in this exhibition were made by:
Eugene Ofori Agyei<\/strong>.
Eugene Ofori Agyei was born in Ghana<\/strong>, Africa.
He now lives in the USA as an artist and teacher.

His artwork is called: Bond<\/strong>.
It is an installation<\/strong> from 2021.
An installation is an art project used
to design a room or a place.

Eugene Ofori Agyei first studied
at the University of Kwame Nkrumah<\/strong>.\u2028
This is a university for science and technology.
The university is in the city of Kumasi in Ghana.
Eugene Ofori Agyei studied industrial design<\/strong>.
He specialised in ceramics.
Industrial design means:
Designing things that are used in everyday life.
For example: furniture, devices or cars.

From 2018, Eugene Ofori Agyei studied at the University of Florida in the USA.\u2028He specialised in arts<\/strong> there. \u2028
He finished his ceramics studies in 2023.

The installation Bond is about dislocation<\/strong>.
Dislocation here means:
Someone lives in a new place in another country.

Sometimes people do not feel at home in a new place.
Or: Sometimes people feel at home in both places.
Eugene Ofori Agyei feels at home in Ghana and in the USA.

He can best express his experiences in
these 2 countries with ceramics<\/strong>.
You can mould ceramics very well<\/strong>.

Eugene Ofori Agyei asks these questions<\/strong> with his installation:
\u2022 Who am I if I know 2 cultures?

\u2022 Where is my home?

\u2022 How important are rituals?
Rituals are actions that you repeat a lot.
For example: celebrations or prayers.

\u2022 How important is a country\u2019s history?

Eugene Ofori Agyei combines his ceramic objects
with yarns and batik fabrics<\/strong>.
Batik fabrics are colourful and have special patterns.
The technique to make batik comes from Indonesia.
The fabrics for the installation are also from Indonesia.
But they were printed in Ghana.
The yarns are from China.

For the artist, these materials are not only beautiful.
They also have a political meaning:
The materials come from many different places.
This connects the people and cultures from all these places.

Eugene Ofori Agyei\u2019s art also shows:
It can be difficult when people
experience different cultures.
It can be difficult in everyday life,
but also for people’s feelings.

The ceramic objects belong to Duke Franz von Bayern<\/strong>. \u2028
He loaned them to the museum for the exhibition. \u2028
