In 2002 four museums moved into the newly built Pinakothek der Moderne, thus establishing one of the world\u2019s largest institutions for 20th and 21st-century art and culture. To mark its 15th anniversary, the Architecture Museum of the Architekturmuseum der TU M\u00fcnchen, the Bayerische Staatsgem\u00e4ldesammlungen, Die Neue Sammlung \u2013 The Design Museum, and the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung M\u00fcnchen are opening up their holdings and taking readers on a never-before-seen interdisciplinary tour of more than 200 highlights from architecture, the visual and applied arts, prints and drawings as well as design.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n

Against the background of eight essays, which provide an overview of the cultural and historical developments in the decades between 1895 and 2017, the interplay of the various genres becomes a miniature cultural history of the Modern Age. This makes it possible to experience the simultaneous phenomena of different disciplines in a single synopsis. The exhibition in book form presents a selection of works that are representative of the large collections of the individual museums and are intended to spark curiosity about the many discoveries, cross-references and dialogs that are possible in an institution such as the Pinakothek der Moderne with its four museums. The publication demonstrates the diversity and abundance of the individual collections; it displays the familiar and less familiar, and shows all of this as a shared cultural tableau.
